Denison picnic honors DHS Texas Scholars
The Denison Education Foundation and the Denison Chamber of Commerce hosted a picnic and awards ceremony on Wednesday to honor the 2014 graduating Texas Scholars. According to school officials, the more than 100 students honored at the celebration chose to take a slate of more demanding courses during their high school years to better prepare them for the workplace and careers, as recommended by the State of Texas.
The DEF and Chamber sponsored the noon gathering of Denison High School's Texas Scholars at Loy Lake Park's Mayor Arena, where DHS Principal Dr. Cavin Boettger praised the students' academic accomplishments before joining Dr. Henry Scott, DISD Superintendent, to present the honorees with their medals.
"These hard-working Texas Scholars opted to take the tougher courses rather than the easier ones, in preparation for success at college as well as in careers and the workplace," said Boettger. "We have no doubt that their futures will be brighter because of the hard work and study they invested during their four years at Denison High School. We are all extremely proud of them, and we wish them all the best as they move forward and pursue their dreams." >>more
